Research Grant

The Japanese Association for Emergency Nursing invites applicants for research grants in accordance with the “Operational Guidelines for Research Grants.”
There has been no specific application period set for this since 2005, so applications are accepted anytime.
Members who wish to apply for a grant are requested to apply in accordance with the application procedure after reading the operational guidelines.

Objective
  • The Japanese Association for Emergency Nursing aims to support research and investigations on emergency nursing and emergency medical care using the Association’s fees to improve the qualifications of its members.
Eligibility
  • Only members of the Japanese Association for Emergency Nursing can apply. The applicant must have been a member of the Association for at least 3 years.
  • The content of applicant’s research must be related to emergency nursing and emergency medicine.
  • Research studies conducted by a committee member of the Japanese Association for Emergency Nursing are also eligible.
Budget
  • The total annual budget for the research grant is 2 million yen.
    This budget shall include expenses for research and studies conducted by each committee of the JAEN.
  • In principle, the budget is implemented for a one-year period from the date of approval.
  • The minimum grant is 50,000 yen per topic.
  • The maximum grant amount is determined for each course.
    • 1)Course A:Members who are doing a full-scale trial research or have studied research methods in a master’s program The maximum grant amount is 500,000 yen per research topic.
      The grant amount is limited to up to 1 million yen per research topic if it is a joint research with other institutions.
    • 2)Course B:Members who are taking on the challenge of research for the first time
      The maximum grant amount is 300,000 yen per research topic.
      The grant amount is limited to 600,000 yen per research topic if it is a joint research with other institutions.
How to Apply
  • Documents:
    Submit the prescribed documents to the Japanese Association for Emergency Nursing Office.

  • Application Period:
    Research grant applications are accepted at any time. However, review and decisions will be conducted at the quarterly meetings of the board of directors.
  • Selection Process:
    Research grant applicants will be reviewed by the Research Committee. The submitted prescribed documents may require additions or revisions.
  • Validity period of the initially submitted application documents:
    The validity period of the initially submitted documents shall be one year from the date of application.
  • Decision and Notification:
    Acceptance or rejection will be decided after a deliberation by the board of directors, and the applicant will be notified of the results thereafter.
Reporting of Research Results
  • Grant recipients must submit a report on the results of their research to the Association within 3 months after the end of the grant period. Members who are continuing their research at that time must report the progress of their research in a Research Results Report (Form 5).

  • It is mandatory for grant recipients to make a presentation at the Academic Conference of the Japanese Association for Emergency Nursing within 2 years after receiving the grant. Grant recipients are recommended to submit their paper to the association’s journal if they wish to do so.
  • Papers that received research grant should clearly state that it was funded by a research grant from the project.
Use of Research Funds
  • Research expenses must be reported on the “Report on the Use of Research Expenses (Form 6)” within 3 months after the end of the grant period.
  • Research funds may be used for the following:
    Surveys, meetings, transportation, communication, rewards, office supplies, and printing expenses for the purpose of research.
    Moreover, analytical software needed for the research is allowed only within a time limit.
    Excluding transportation costs, a catalog or quotation showing the listed price must be attached for items with a unit price of 50,000 yen or more.
  • Research funds cannot be used for the following:
    Transportation expenses for participation in conferences, purchase of equipment that have high cash value such as computers, and so on.
  • When preparing the budget, the grant recipient must ensure that there is no significant bias in expense items. When one item exceeds 50% of the total budget or is outsourced in any way, the reason should be clearly stated in the “Relationship between Research and Expenses” section.
  • In the execution of expenses, the use of such expenses must be clearly stated (e.g., receipts should be attached).The receipt of rewards (e.g., gift cards) and gratuities (e.g., transportation expenses) for research collaborators should be attached to the report.
  • If the grantor consults with the committee about extending the execution period of the grant or executing expenses before the grant period, the committee will discuss the reasons and decide whether or not to allow it.
  • The grant will be cancelled if it is used improperly.
  • If the research results report, report on the execution of expenses, and publication of research results are not properly implemented without justifiable reasons, the grant will have to be returned.
